India on Thursday has recorded 4,12,262 fresh COVID-19 cases taking the toll to 2,10,77,410 in the last 24 hours.
As per the Union Health Ministry, India reported 3,980 deaths in the last 24 hours taking the fatality count to 2,30,168. The active cases in the country are 35,66,398 and the total recoveries are 1,72,80,844.
India accounted for 46% of global cases and 25% of global deaths reported in the past week, the World Health Organization said on Wednesday, reported NDTV.
So far, the pandemic has claimed over 3.2 million lives worldwide. The surge in COVID-19 cases has forced many states and Union Territories to impose lockdowns in order to curb the spread of the virus.
Recently, some researchers predicted that the fatality count in India could get more than double from the present count, reported Mint.
As per the report, a team at the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore used a mathematical model to predict about 404,000 deaths will occur by 11 June if current trends continue.
