The extreme cold wave continued to pass through Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh on Wednesday, as the minimum temperatures at various locations dropped a few notches below the freezing point.
“A short spell of rain/snow is expected between 26 and 27 December. Otherwise, the cold wave conditions are likely to continue till 31 December,” a Meteorological Department (MeT) official told a news agency, Indo-Asian News Service (IANS).
The forty-day Chillai-Kalan commenced on 21 December and ends on 31 January. Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of minus 5.0 °C, Pahalgam minus 6.6 °C, and Gulmarg minus 6.0 °C.
Jammu city recorded 7.5 °C, Katra 7.2 °C, Batote 2.5 °C, Bannihal minus 0.4 °C, and Bhaderwah 0.2 °C minimum temperatures.
Kargil witnessed minus 17.0 °C, Leh recorded a minimum of minus 16.4 °C and Drass minus 24.6 °C.
