A militant has been killed in an ongoing gunfight which erupted on Monday evening in Charar-i-Shareef area of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district, reported a local news agency, Global News Service (GNS).

Unidentified official sources told the agency that a militant has been killed in an ongoing gunfight, however, the identity of the killed militant couldn’t be ascertained yet. The operation was halted due to darkness yesterday; at dawn, the operation was again resumed, the official sources added.

Yesterday, in the initial exchange of firing one army trooper sustained a splinter injury, who was shifted to 92 Base hospital for specialised treatment.

Earlier, According to the reports reaching GNS, a joint team of Police, Army and CRPF launched a cordon-and-search-operation in Charar-i-Shareef.

As the joint team encircled the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them. The fire was retaliated by the joint team, triggering off a gunfight. (GNS)
