Srinagar: Senior vice president Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Conference Abdul Gani Vakil asked the central government to clear its stand on holding assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
“It seems that the Narendra Modi-led government is not sincere in holding polls in Jammu and Kashmir, thereby denying a constitutional right of popular government to the people,” said the former minister.
“Apprehensions are increasing in the minds of the people that GoI is not serious in holding assemble elections as early as possible,” Vakil said, addressing party workers convention in Sopore.
“It is a matter of utter shame that in a great democracy, a region has been denied right to choose their government and selected bureaucrats are being brought from different states and installed in Jammu and Kashmir,” Vakil said.
He said the Lt Governor-led bureaucratic administration has failed at all levels whether it’s on development front or on the security front. “There is no sense of security. Innocent people are being killed and people at large feel unsafe.”
Vakil said that instead of giving employment, the employed are terminated, competitive exams have lost their credibility that is clear by the recent so-called selection in SI posts in Police.
“The Anganwadi workers and other casual and contractual employees are protesting on the streets demanding wages on time. This all is repulsed through brute force,” Vakil said.
