Srinagar: The residents of Chattabal area of Srinagar on Sunday staged a protest at the press enclave, demanding authorities to know “why the Army has dug a playfield in their locality.”

According to a local news agency, Kashmir News Observer (KNO), scores of residents from Chana Mohalla locality of Chattabal and adjoining areas assembled at Srinagar’s press enclave today.

Javaid Ahmad, one of the protesters said that they saw some Army men digging a local playfield in their area. “Soon after spotting them in the field, we approached towards them and asked why they were digging the playfield. We were told that they were planting a tree,” he said.

However, he said, locals, are apprehensive that the Army is going to ‘grab’ the land, therefore want the authorities to look into the matter.

“The government must look into the matter and ensure that the land available as a playfield for the youth must not be grabbed by anyone,” Ahmad said. (KNO)
