Another militant killed in an ongoing gunfight that broke out between the government forces and militants in Kreeri village of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Monday, reported a local news agency, Kashmir News Observer (KNO).

The gunfight raged after the government forces launched a search operation to track down militants, who attacked a forces’ checkpoint in Baramulla’s Kreeri and killed two paramilitary troopers and a Special Police Officer.

An unnamed police officer told the agency that contact was established with the fleeing militants in Kreeri village after the morning attack in which two paramilitary and one police personnel were killed.

While chasing the militants, a joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them, triggering an encounter, reported KNO. The gunfight was on-going when this report was filed.
