The Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB) has halted registration for the Yatra this year as the country is grappled by an unprecedented second wave of COVID-19.
“In view of evolving COVID situation in the country & the need to take all necessary precautionary measures, registration for Shri Amarnath ji Yatra is being temporarily suspended,” the board tweeted from its official handle.
The SASB said that they are constantly monitoring the situation and the registration “would be reopened once the situation improves”.
Last year, the Yatra was cancelled as the country saw the first wave of the Coronavirus pandemic. The decision to cancel the holy pilgrimage was taken by the SASB.
The yatra goes through Jammu and Kashmir, an erstwhile state that has nearly 15,000 active positive cases and 2084 deaths so far.
