A Border Security Forces’ trooper shot himself dead in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Wednesday morning, reported a local news agency, Global News Service (GNS).

An unidentified official told the agency that the trooper, identified as head constable Bharinder Singh of 118 Battalion, shot himself with his service rifle, while on duty in Tanghdar area of the district. The cause of him taking this extreme step remains unknown for the time being, they said.

Meanwhile, a police official while confirming the incident told GNS that a case has been registered in this regard and further investigations taken up. (GNS)
