Srinagar: The 14-year-old resident of Qaziabad, Handwara, north Kashmir, Hazmi Shafi Bhat, was laid to rest in Sherri area of Baramulla, where unidentified militants of foreign origin are generally buried.

He was killed in a cross-fire at Wangam crossing yesterday evening, the police said.

Bhat, the eldest son in the family, who was physically handicapped, was buried in presence of only seventeen family members.

Muhammad Shafi Bhat, Nambardar of the village and uncle of deceased Bhat, said that police intimated them that the body won’t be handed over for the last rites. And instead, he will be buried in Sheeri, Baramulla, and a few family members will be allowed to attend the last rites.

He said early morning around 6:30 am, they left along with a police team for the burial and about 7 am Bhat was offered funeral prayers.

Earlier, the police said in a statement that a civilian was killed during the exchange of fire at Wangam crossing in Kralgund area, and added that a case was registered. Further investigation was going on about the circumstances of his killing, the police said. Three CRPF men were also killed in the attack yesterday evening. (KNO)
