The office of Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) continues to lie headless even after nearly two weeks into transfer of erstwhile magistrate, causing huge inconvenience to the local residents.
A local delegation told a local news agency, Global News Service (GNS) that public works have come to a grinding halt after the erstwhile SDM Reyaz Ahmad Malik was transferred – Malik, who had the additional charge of Custodian Trade Facilitation Centre (TFC) and Sub Registrar Uri, was transferred on 18 April and posted as Joint Director, Hospitality and Protocol, Kashmir.
“The erstwhile SDM was transferred some twelve days before but we fail to understand that why no one has been sent to replace him” Imran Ahmad, a local, said.
Amid absence of the office-bearer, the people have to face a lot difficulties, he lamented.
Interestingly, the Tehsil Office Uri is also headless as the incumbent Tehsildar Syed Khursheed Ahmad is yet to report the office after he tested positive for Covid on 9 February this year. It was only after persuasion by the local residents that Tehsildar Boiniyar was assigned with additional charges of the Tehsil.
Deputy Commissioner Baramulla Bhupinder Kumar when contacted over the issue told GNS that the matter has already been taken up with the government and under active consideration. “We expect a new SDM very soon,” the district administrator said.
Meanwhile, Commissioner/Secretary to the Government, General Administration Department, J-K Manoj Kumar Dwivedi in the meantime said that a proposal is being prepared in this regard. Seconding the statement of DC Baramulla, Dwivedi “Hopefully, the new SDM will be posted in the next few days.” (GNS)
