A team of Wildlife Department captured a leopard in Rampur Boniyar area in frontier Uri town here in the district on Sunday evening.

Official sources told a local news agency, Global News Service (GNS) said that on complaints of frequent sightings of the leopard in and around residential areas, a trap was laid by the department some ten days back near Army’s 106 Brigade camp. The leopard was finally captured this evening, they said.

Confirming it, Range Officer Wildlife Department Baramulla Altaf Koul told GNS that presence of the wild animal had off late created much panic among the local inhabitants. It (leopard) would be sent Dachigam Park tomorrow on arrangement of a vehicle, he said.

We have installed several cage at several other places across the district to trap the roaming beasts, he further said.

Meanwhile, the locals have hailed the efforts of Wildlife Department in capturing the beast. (GNS)
