Waheed Para, the youth-wing president of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), “is being persecuted and tortured to admit the false allegations and he is being kept under inhuman conditions,” alleged former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti.

Mufti accused that the Jammu and Kashmir Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has joined “the list of Central agencies to terrorise Kashmiris and falsely implicate them”.

Para was summoned by National Investigation Agency just after he filed his nomination papers for the District Development Council elections. He was later arrested by the agency for alleged links with the infamous case of Deputy Superintendent of Police, Davinder Singh, and militant Naveed Babu — only to be released on bail by a special NIA court. However, he was soon after arrested by the CID.

In a series of tweets, Mufti said that “after failing to substantiate charges against PDP leader Waheed ur Rehman Para, CID replaced the SIT head as he refused to be an accomplice in framing invented charges”.

“Investigation against him has been fraudulent and politically motivated from day one,” she added.

The former chief minister said that the institutions meant to uphold law and order bring disrepute by getting involved in these deceitful investigations. “The norm dictating such deceitful investigations is ‘Show me the man & I’ll show you the crime’. Shameful & appalling that these actions discredit & bring disrepute to the institutions meant to uphold law & order,” she tweeted.
