The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) has turned COVID-19 vaccination into political promise by asking people to vote to get free vaccine.
The official Twitter handle of the BJP in West Bengal state of India has shared a poster with a caption: “As soon as BJP government comes to power in West Bengal, COVID-19 vaccine will be provided free of cost to everyone.”
The poster, which shows the photograph of PM Modi and a caption reading: “West Bengal BJP government will provide free covid 19 vaccine as soon as comes into power.”
While the Modi government has come under sharp criticism for failing to be prepared for the second wave of the virus, the country on Thursday recorded 332,730 fresh COVID-19 cases. It was the highest single-day count in any country so far.
With patients dying outside hospitals for either lack of oxygen or ICU beds, the country recorded the highest-ever single-day spike in deaths with 2,263 fatalities, taking the count to 186,928.
The fresh cases have taken the total number of infections in India, since the pandemic began, to 16,263,695. India is now the second worst-hit country. The active cases in the country are now over 2.4 million.
