Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav died on Monday in Medanta hospital in Gurugram, where he was undergoing treatment, reported Press Trust of India (PTI).

“Mere adarniya pitaji aur sabke netaji nahi rahe – Akhilesh Yadav,” the SP tweeted from its Twitter handle.

Mulayam, 82, was admitted in the hospital since August and was shifted in ICU on 2 October and had been on lifesaving drugs since.

Born on 22 November 1939, Yadav was a prominent Indian politician and the leader of the Samajwadi Party. He served as a representative for the Uttar Pradesh district of Azamgarh in the Lok Sabha. The founder of Samajwadi Party served for three terms as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh.
