The United Arab Emirates suspended all flights from India, including transit passengers on Thursday, as the cases of COVID-19 cases in the country reached new highs.

Agence France-Presse quoting local media reported that 300 flights a week operated between the UAE and India before the ban was announced, rendering the air route one of the world’s busiest.

“The decision to suspend flights came after studying and evaluating the epidemiological situation in the friendly Republic of India,” the General Civil Aviation Authority said in a statement carried on state news agency WAM.

The GCAA said that those travelling from India through other countries must spend at least for at least 14 days in that third destination, as per the reports.

Meanwhile, India has recorded 332,730 fresh COVID-19 cases on Friday, the highest single-day count in any country so far.

Over the past week, many COVId-19 patients died due to the unavailability of medical oxygen or beds in hospitals.
