Two persons including a firefighter have sustained burn injuries in a late Friday night blaze in Srinagar in which at least 7 houses and a couple of shops gutted completely.

As reported earlier, a fire had broken out in Chandpora (Gadood Bagh) area of Srinagar falling under the jurisdiction of police station Kral Khud on late Friday night.

The fire spread from one house to another, damaging 7 residential houses completely till the firefighters doused the flames with hard efforts and help from police and the local populace.

Local sources told a local news agency, Kashmir News Trust (KNT), that a firefighter identified as
7 houses gutted Muhammad Rouf Wani and a house owner Altaf Ahmed Sheikh sustained burn injuries while dousing the flames.

A booksellers shop belonging to one Nisar Ahmed has also gutted in the incident, locals said.

The houses gutted in the fire incident belonged to Muhammad Amin Sheikh, Bashir Ahmed Sheikh, Javaid Ahmed Sheikh, Rafiq Ahmed Sheikh, Altaf Ahmed Sheikh, Manzoor Ahmed Sheikh and Manzoor Ahmed Khan.

Police have registered a case to ascertain the cause of the fire.

Sources said that police and civil official rushed to the spot to assess the situation and assured the victims of all possible help. [KNT]
