Prominent Kashmiri Shia leader, Ruhullah Mehdi on Thursday hinted that the ruling government was ‘turning things uglier in Kashmir to benefit them in UP.”

Uttar Pradesh is slated to go for elections in 2022 and analysts and politicians are saying that the party is at the backfoot there and that it might use other means to gather support in the northern state of India.

In a veiled tweet without naming anyone, the former legislator said, “I remember the person saying in reply, “on the contrary, you should hope that ‘they’ feel that ‘they’ are safe in UP. Because if they feel that things in UP are not good for ‘them’, ‘they’ will turn things uglier in Kashmir to benefit them in UP.”

Mehdi was commenting on the killing of two non- Muslim teachers by suspected militants in Srinagar, “The way things are swiftly turning bad to worse and more worse everyday, I recall a conversation with a well informed person only a few months ago, I told the person that many people in India are looking forward to UP elections for some hope out of this darkness.” He said in another tweet.

He also questioned how unknown killers have a free space to act and when they wish, “More innocent killings today. The news is extremely terrible and condemnable. Killing of unarmed innocent civilians is simply an act of terror. This killing spree needs to be stopped. I fail to understand how these “unknown” killers have a free space to act as and when they wish.” Mehdi asked.
