Srinagar: Three militant were killed in a gunfight in Runipora area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district Monday.

A senior police officer told GNS that three militant were killed in the gunfight. However, he said, the identity of the slain militants was yet to be ascertained.

As per the official sources with the killing of today’s three militants, total number of militants killed in Valley this year has gone to 116 including 6 operational commanders of all militant outfits so far.

Hizb recieved major jolt among all militant outfits after its top commanders including longest surviving operational commander Riyaz Naikoo were killed this year.

Pertinently, last year till 04 August 2019, 133 militants were killed in the Valley.

Earlier According to the reports reaching GNS, a joint team of Police, Army’s 19 RR and CRPF launched a cordon-and-search-operation in Runipora.

As the joint team encircled the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them. The fire was retaliated by the joint team, triggering off an encounter. (GNS)
