Srinagar: Three militants were killed and a army soldier injured in an ongoing gunfight with government forces in Astan Mohalla Kangan area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Wednesday.

Director General of Police Dilbag Singh told that three JeM militants have been killed in the ongoing operation. However, he said, the identity of the slain militants was yet to be ascertained.

Meanwhile official sources told that one army soldier was also injured.

Earlier, according to the reports, a joint team of Police, Army’s 53 RR and 183 BN CRPF launched a cordon-and-search-operation in Astan Mohalla .

As the joint team approached the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them. The fire was retaliated by the joint team, triggering off an encounter.

A senior police officer confirmed the exchange of fire between the joint team and the militants. As per the sources, two to three militants are believed to be trapped. (GNS)
