Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir police resorted to tear-smoke shelling to disperse the relatives of killed militants outside the Police Control Room here in Srinagar on Saturday.
The relatives had come to demand the bodies of the militants who were killed in a gunfight in Pulwama. Police said that the relatives of militants, mostly women pelted stones at the police personnel deployed at the Police Control Room.
A police official was quoted saying by a news agency Kashmir News Trust that over 40 to 50 relatives of the militants who were killed in Shopian and Pulwama encounter pelted stones on Police outside PCR Srinagar in which SDPO Shaheed Gunj suffered an injury in his right arm.
He also said that the police chased the relatives of the militants and arrested nine people.
The arrested have been identified as Basit Reyaz of Mauhpona Pulwama, Fayaz Sofi of Sangam, Mumtaz Hafi of Dalipora Pulwama, Muzafar Bhat, Muhammad Ishaq and Adil Nazir Bhat all residents of Muradpora Shopian, Zameer Dar and Sahil Mukhtar of Drubgam Pulwama and Shahnawaz Ahmed of Bahibagh Kulgam.
Divulging information about the incident, sources said that relatives of slain militants had arrived at PCR to have the last glimpse of them. At PCR, police allowed only close relatives, however, others from the crowd too tried to enter into PCR. Police used tear smoke shells to disperse them. (KNT)
