The residents of Surankote in the Poonch district on Thursday continued their protest for the second consecutive day to demand the recent flash flood in the town be declared a natural calamity and provide compensation to the victims.

Reports reaching to a local news agency, Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said that the protest was led by DDC member Shahnawaz Choudhary to press for their demand.

They were demanding adequate compensation be provided to the victims of the recent flash flood and it should load be declared a natural calamity under the state disaster response fund.

The protesters also alleged that the district administration did not provide proper relief efforts after flash floods hit the area.

Meanwhile, additional deputy commissioner Poonch on Wednesday reached out to the protestors to pacify them, however, the efforts did not materialize.

Reports said that the protesters resumed their dharna for the second day consecutive in the main town. (KNO)
