Supreme Court on Monday dismissed a plea regarding vacant constituencies numbering 24 under Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, reported Bar and Bench.

The applicant pleaded: “These constituencies should be suspended as the people are not able to enjoy all rights.”

Chief justice U.U. Lalit, as per the report, said that “these are all in the policy domain. This is like an act of state”.

“Why are you bothered with this? It is under India only,” he added, dismissing the plea.

Before restarting the political process in J-K, the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019, made it mandatory to follow the delimitation process.

The total number of seats in the Assembly now is 107. Of these, 24 seats will remain vacant on account of certain areas of Jammu and Kashmir being under the administration of Pakistan.
