Three militants and an Assistant sub-inspector of J-K police were killed in an overnight gunfight at Panthachowk in the outskirts of Srinagar district, reported a local news agency, Global News Service (GNS).
An unnamed senior Police officer told GNS that three militants were killed in an overnight gunfight, bodies have been recovered with arms and ammunition. However, the identity of the killed militants is yet to be ascertained.
The operation was halted due to darkness, as the first ray of light struck this morning, the operation was resumed, the officer said.
During the initial exchange of firing ASI of J-K police, identified as Babu Ram was also killed.
This year 153 militants have been killed so far this year, surpassing the total number of militants killed in year 2019. In 2019, as per official figures, 152 militants were killed.
Yesterday, three bike-borne militants had attacked a joint team of police and CRPF near Panthachowk in which no damage was done, they said. Soon after the attack, the fleeing militants were engaged in a gunfight by the government forces in a nearby area. (GNS)
