A foreign militant involved in killing of two councilors and a policeman is trapped in the ongoing gunfight in north Kashmir’s Sopore, Inspector General of Police Vijay Kumar said.

Taking to his Twitter handle, Vijay Kumar said, “One foreign militant involved in #killing of two councillors and a policeman, is trapped in the #encounter: IGP Kashmir @JmuKmrPolice”

A gunfight between militants and government forces is underway in Nathipora area of north Kashmir’s Sopore.

Reports said that a joint team of Police, Army’s 22RR and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in Nathipora.

As the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off a gunfight.

As per the reports two to three militants are believed to be trapped.

Notably, on 29 March, militants attacked the councilors scheduled meeting at Sopore in which a councilor and a cop died on the spot while another councilor succumbed to injuries at a hospital in Srinagar
