Shopkeeper allegedly beaten by police in Pattan, SSP refutes allegation

Pattan: Police on Monday evening allegedly assaulted a restaurant owner and a waiter in Pattan town of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district and damaged several items inside the hotel.

Sources told News Agency Kashmir Dot Com- (KDC) that a police team headed by SDPO Pattan had beaten a restaurant waiter in Pattan market on Monday evening at 09:00 Pm in which one Person identified as Manzoor Ahmad resident of Baramulla, was injured.

Sources said that the injured person was rushed to Sub District Hospital (SDH) Pattan, where he was referred to SMHS hospital Srinagar for advance treatment; however the injured person was discharged from SMHS hospital later.

Shopkeepers have alleged that they have been assaulted by the said Police team on a regular basis during evening hours and the officer is using unparliamentary language on a routine basis.

Meanwhile, SSP Baramulla Rayees Ahmad has refuted the allegations and told News Agency Kashmir Dot Com- (KDC) that “Nobody was assaulted. Police party took round to secure night curfew, some hotel owners told to close shops as they were not obeying since last many days. When asked how this person was injured, SSP said the matter will be investigated.”

He said “If any issue of unparliamentary language will be dealt with and appropriately sensitized”.

Meanwhile Shopkeepers have appealed Lt Governor Administration to transfer the said officer immediately. (KDC)
