Srinagar: One among the three army personnel, who were injured in an ongoing gunfight in Shopian district of south Kashmir, succumbed to his injuries.
The army personnel was injured in an on going gunfight between militants and the government forces in Wangam village of Shopian. All three were shifted to 92 Base Army hospital in Srinagar for treatment.
Quoting sources, a local news agency Kashmir Dot Com, said that the trooper belongs to 34 Rashtriya Rifles of the army. He was identified as Pinku Kumar, a resident Bagpat district of Uttar Pradesh, who had received bullet wounds earlier during the gunfight.
Another trooper, Mandeep Kumar, of the same unit has also been brought to the hospital and is undergoing treatment.
Meanwhile, police said that during the joint operation it killed an unidentified militant and recovered a M4 rifle from the site, adding that the operation is still on.
Earlier, a joint team of police, army’s 34 RR and CRPF had launched a cordon and search operation on specific information about the presence of militants in the area.
“As the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them which retaliated triggering an encounter.”
Moreover, searches are on in the area as more militants are believed to be trapped. (Inputs from KDC)
