Srinagar: The district administration of Shopian has refuted claims of persons being thrown out of Lieutenant Governor G.C Murmu’s meeting as “false and malicious.”
In a statement issued here, a spokesperson said, “Following the release of a video on social media where one person has claimed that his deputation was thrown out of Lieutenant Governor’s meeting in Shopian as completely false, malicious and baseless,”
Adding that earlier today a video had surfaced on a Facebook page of one person namely Javed Qadri who claimed that he along with some sarpanches were supposed to meet the LG but were ‘kicked and thrown out’ of the venue.
“He also claimed that the officers told him that they ‘will not allow Hindutva and Hindus to spread in Shopian’ and that ‘this was done to subjugate their party,’
The administration clarified that the above-mentioned person along with some sarpanches was indeed listed to meet the LG at mini-secretariat, Shopian where all deputations were called subject to a limit of maximum five persons per deputation in view of COVID-19 restrictions and social distancing norms.
He said that Mr. Qadri arrived at the venue with more than people and was told by LG’s Senior Superintendent of Police security and Director SSL that they must limit the number just like others, “Said persons immediately started shouting and creating a ruckus in response and spilt into the road while raising slogans,”
Adding that some officers even followed them out and agreed to let them all meet the LG in batches but they continued the racketeering, “The Deputy Commissioner, Shopian stated in a video that he did not even meet the said persons at any point during the day as he was inside the hall attending to the Honb’le LG, Advisor etc, let alone kick them out or make any comments against any religious community,”
He also stated that such a fictitious and malicious claim has the potential to disturb the communal harmony of the District and the inviting of charges of spreading libel and slander.
