Srinagar: The family members of a 37-year-old woman of Charar-i-Sharief area in central Kashmir’s Budgam district, who allegedly committed suicide, staged a protest at press colony Srinagar, alleging that she was killed by her husband, who is a Hurriyat activist, and demanded his arrest.

Earlier, the 37-year-old woman from Namtehal Chadoora took a poisonous substance at her home after which she was rushed to the sub-district hospital Chadoora where she was declared dead.

The family members of the deceased woman told a local news agency, Kashmir News Observer (KNO),  that she was married to Gulam Rasool Wani of Namtehal area of Chadoora eleven years ago “but she was being harassed by her in-laws as their greed continued for cash and other things”.

“When we reached the sub-district hospital Chadoora she was alive and we asked her what happened to her. She said that she didn’t take poison but was forced by her husband to take the poison,” the family members alleged.

Meanwhile, an unidentified police official told KNO that an FIR has already been registered in this regard and further investigation was going on. (KNO)
