The River Police in Srinagar evacuated all the family members safely after a houseboat (dinghy) started sub-merging in the river Jehlum after the heavy rains on Monday.

An official said that a houseboat meant for residential purposes started sinking near the banks of river Jhelum near Lambert Lane Bund in Srinagar.

An official said that all the family members were rescued in the nick of time.

The houseboat belonged to Ghulam Qadir Ghasi son of Asadullah Ghasi who said they have been rendered homeless as the houseboat has suffered extensive damage.

“We appeal to the administration to ensure the rehabilitation of my family. I have no other place to live in,” he said. (KNT)
