The Jammu-Srinagar highway remained closed for third consecutive day on Thursday owing to heavy rainfall and multiple landslides in Ramban and Udhampur districts even as the road clearance agencies speeded up the restoration work amid improvement in weather, officials said.

An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that with the improvement in weather after days of heavy rain across Jammu and Kashmir, road clearance operation was speeded up to restore traffic on the 270-km-long strategic highway– the only all-weather road linking Kashmir with rest of the country.

“Restoration work on NH44 is going on at Dewal Bridge, T2 tunnel, Maroge 1 (Sita Ram Passi) Maroge 2, Battery Chashma and hopefully these locations may get cleared by today evening,” said senior superintendent of Police, traffic (national highway), Shabir Ahmad Malik.

He said that presently there is no movement on the highway and Doda-Kishtwar road.

Meanwhile, DySP Traffic Rajouri-Poonch said that all the slides on Mughal road have been cleared and road is through for traffic—(KNO)
