A family from south Kashmir’s Shopian district has approached police claiming one of the slain militants in Rajouri gunfight as their son.
A fierce gunfight broke out on Friday in Thanamandi forests in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir in which two militants were killed. However, based on a specific intelligence input about the presence of a militant, a massive search operation continues in the area for the fourth day.
The forces including BSF, Army’s Rashtriya Rifles and Special Operation Group (SOG) also launched cordon and search operations (CASOs) in Poonch and Samba districts on Monday after observing “movement of suspicious persons on CCTV”. House to house searches are being conducted in the villages.
The family of Rameez Ahmad Tantray (23) of Jamnagery, Shopian approached the police saying one of the killed militants was their son, new agency GNS quoted officials as saying. To verify the claim, DNA sampling was carried out.
Rameez, as per the family, had been missing since 2018 and a report about it stands lodged in Herpora police station.
Police have told the family to wait for the DNA report.
