Police arrests 14 gamblers in north Kashmir’s Baramulla

Srinagar: Police on Monday claimed to have arrested fourteen gamblers and detained a notorious drug peddler under PSA in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

In statement issued to GNS, the police said that acting tough against social crimes, Police in Baramulla have arrested 14 gamblers and seized stake money from their possession. Besides, a notorious drug peddler was detained under PSA.

The statement further stated that acting on specific information, police parties from Police Station Kunzer and Police Station Pattan raided gambling sites at Takiya Batpora, Hardu Aboora, Hanjiwera Bala & Kripalpora Payeen following an input about gambling activities and apprehended 14 gamblers.

Officers have seized stake money of ₹36,440/- and playing cards from the gamblers. They have been arrested and shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody, he said.

Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective police stations and further investigation is in progress, he said.

Moreover, a notorious drug peddler namely Muzamil Majeed Bhat @Hashim son of Abdul Majeed Bhat resident of Mohalla Mir Sahib Baramulla was detained under PSA for his active involvement in drug peddling activities in Baramulla Town. Several cases under NDPS Act stands already registered against him. He has been lodged at Central Jail Kot Bilwal Jammu under detention orders received from Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, he said.

The police spokesman firther said that persons found indulging in criminal activities shall be dealt as per law. Community members are requested to share information regarding the crimes in their neighbourhood with the local police units, reads the statement. (GNS)
