Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir police on Friday said that the Peoples Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti was not under house arrest and that she was requested to postpone her Pulwama visit due to “security reasons”.

Taking to their Twitter handle, police said, “PDP leader Ms Mehbooba Mufti is not under house arrest. She was requested to #postpone her visit to #Pulwama purely due to #security reasons. @JmuKmrPolice,”

Meanwhile, Mehbooba has responded to the tweet saying, “Really? If that was the case then why were you & other media persons stopped at the gate?”

Earlier in the day, Mehbooba claimed that she along with her daughter was placed under house detention before her visit to Pulwama where she was to meet the family of PDP leader Waheed Para who has been remanded 15 day NIA custody in connection with his alleged links to Hizbul Mujahidin.

Mehbooba in a series of tweets took on the ruling BJP government and said, “I’ve been illegally detained yet again. For two days, J&K admin has refused to allow me to visit  @parawahid ’s family in Pulwama. BJP Ministers & their puppets are allowed to move around in every corner of Kashmir but security is a problem only in my case,” she said.

In another tweet she said, “Their cruelty knows no bounds. Waheed was arrested on baseless charges & I am not allowed to even console his family. Even my daughter Iltija has been placed under house arrest because she also wanted to visit Waheed’s family.”
