Police has decided to “strictly” enforce corona curfew on 21 May, marking Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq and Abdul Gani Lone 31st and 20th death anniversaries respectfully.

Official sources told GNS that Inspector General of Police Vijay Kumar held meeting with all DIsG and SSsP through virtual mode to take stock of the situation. “It was decided that Police shall enforce strictest corona curfew tomorrow (21 May),” they said.

Across India, 21 May is observed as anti-terrorism day. “The IGP instructed all field officers to remain alert and take preventive measures in view of anti terrorism day,” they said.

Meanwhile, normal life continued to remain affected in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday for the 22nd consecutive day due to lockdown in the wake of the unrelenting surge in coronavirus cases, officials said.

Police and paramilitary forces kept barricades on roads at many places in Srinagar as well as in other district headquarters of the Valley and the Jammu region to prevent the movement of people. However, essential and emergency services are allowed, the officials added.

Most of the shops, and other business establishments remained shut while public transport was off the roads. (GNS)
