Srinagar :Jammu and Kashmir police have arrested a man and registered a case against him in connection with the kidnapping and sexually assaulting a 23-year-old woman in Budgam district.

The accused identified as Azaan Kaunsar, son of Kaunsar Ahmad Khan, a resident of Srinagar’s Hyderpora area, has been arrested and a case under FIR number 465/2020 under Section 366-376 has been registered in this regard, local news gathering agency Current News Service (CNS) reported.

Meanwhile, the locals of the district have expressed sympathy for the victim’s family and demanded justice for the victim’s family.

Besides religious leaders and civil society of Budgam, locals have demanded the stern punishment for the accused, saying “it would serve as a lesson to young people who are becoming increasingly misguided in society.”

The locals of the area added that the accused is the son of prominent hotelier and he is trying to influence the case through influential means. They have also sought the intervention of higher officials to ensure transparency in the case.

“Our society is rapidly losing high moral values. It is our collective responsibility to take stock of our own situation and decide whether to take responsibility for such tragedies in our society,” the residents said.(CNS)
