A special judge of National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday sent People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader Waheed ur Rehman Para to thirty-dats judicial custody after he was arrested last month and since questioned by the agency in a militancy related case.
Para, 32, was summoned by the NIA a day after he filed nomination for the District Development Council (DDC) elections for Pulwama constituency.
He was questioned and later booked for his alleged “close links” with an accused, Irfan Shafi Mir, who was arrested along with Hizbul Mujahideen militant Naveed Babu and suspended Deputy Superintendent of Police Davinder Singh earlier this year.
The judge Sunit Gupta granted his judicial remand after perusal of the application moved by the CIO and the CD files.
Para was PDP Youth President and has been influential in south Kashmir in strengthening his party cadre.
