Srinagar: Peoples Democratic Party leader has been detained by the Jammu and Kashmir police a day ahead of the party had organised peaceful protests to observe 5 August as “black day.”

Iltija Mufti who runs her mother’s Twitter handle while taking a dig at ‘Naya Kashmir’ said, “PDP leader Rouf Bhat has been detained by @JmuKmrPolice since the party decided to organise peaceful protests on 5th August & observe it as black day. This is ‘Naya Kashmir’,”

Last year on 5 August the central government abrogated the article-370 of the constitution, in anticipation of protests, the government imposed strict curfew in the valley and cut out all forms of communication including landlines. The government also detained thousands including three former Chief Ministers. While two of them were released earlier this year, PDP president, Mehbooba Mufti whose government was in alliance with the Bharatiya Janta Party continues to remain in detention.
