Police on Sunday arrested an accused person for attacking a police party during a search operation in Maggar Khad village of Kathua district.
In a statement, issued to a local news agency, Kashmir News Observer (KNO), a police spokesperson said that today a police team of PS Lakhanpur along with SOG party headed by DySP Operation Kathua, Tilak Raj Bhardwaj and SHO PS Lakhanpur Insp. Vijay Kotwal was conducting an early morning search in the Maggar Khad area in the jurisdiction of PS Lakhanpur in view of the forthcoming Independence Day.
The statement reads that during the search, a mob of few persons led by one Mohammad Sharif and Shadu — both residents of Maggar Khad along with other persons “attacked the police party with lathis, sharp-edged weapons and also pelted stones in order to kill and commit murder as they were just performing their legitimate duties”.
“Due to which some police personnel got severely injured and in order to disperse the mob, police party fired some warning shots in the air for self-defence and thereafter the police team succeeded in detaining one person namely Mohammad Sharif along with sharp edged weapon,” it reads.
It added: “A case vide FIR No. 70/2022 U/S 307/353/332//147/149 IPC, 4/25 Arms Act has been registered at PS Lakhanpur and investigation has been taken up, besides search to nab other accused person was going on.” (KNO)
