Srinagar: Mohammad Shabir, hailing from Draj village in Kotranka tehsil in Rajouri district, has been apprehended under the stringent Public Safety Act in Rajouri district, Jammu and Kashmir.

According to a police spokesperson, “Shabir is a notorious overground worker and has been detained under the Public Safety Act for his involvement in unlawful activities.”

The detention order for Shabir was issued by the Rajouri district magistrate and subsequently executed by a police team on Monday.

This marks the second detention of an overground worker under the Public Safety Act in the border district within a week. On July 26, Akbar Hussain from Marutha-Kanthol village was also detained under the same administrative law, which permits detention without charge or trial for a duration of up to two years in certain cases.

The spokesperson further mentioned that several overground workers in the district have already been detained under preventive sections of the law to curtail their involvement in unlawful activities.
