Offline classes at University of Kashmir in Srinagar city will resume from 1 October, officials said on Monday.

After a closure of more than five months owing to Covid19 pandemic authorities in Jammu and Kashmir had last week permitted higher educational institutions to resume offline classes.

Registrar of University of Kashmir, Professor Nisar Ahmad Mir told The Kashmir Walla that the offline classes at the university campus will commence from 1st of October as vaccination certificates of the students are being collected, as per the government directions.

“I have asked all the Heads of all the departments to collect vaccination certificates from the students so that in-person classes are started at the campus,” Mir said.

Earlier the Jammu and Kashmir administration on April 18 this year had ordered closure of all educational institutions, including universities and colleges, till further orders.

Later, after a break of more than five months authorities in Jammu and Kashmir had given a nod to the district administrations in the region to allow institutes of higher education to resume “limited on-site” classes provided the permission from district administration and students and staff are fully vaccinated.

The decision of opening higher education institutions was taken at a meeting chaired by chief secretary of Jammu and Kashmir AK Mehta.

Following the government order, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Mohammed Aijaz Asad, who is also the Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMA), had last week directed heads of the institutions to ensure that Covid19 -19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) and guidelines issued by the district administration are followed while opening institutions for offline classes.
