Union Ministry of Home Affairs Tuesday said that nearly 34 lakh domicile certificates have been issued in J-K till 25 January 2021.

In a written reply to a query, Union Minister of State for Home G K Reddy said that the government of J-K has issued a total of 33,80,234 domicile certificates have been issued since its introduction post abrogation of article 370 in August 2019.

Under the new law, the domiciles of J-K have been defined as those who have been a resident for a period of fifteen years or have studied for a period of seven years and appeared in standards tenth or twelfth examination in a registered educational institute in J-K. The domiciles also include children of central government or central government aided organizations, PSU who have served in J-K for a period of ten years. (KNO)
