Srinagar: Mobile internet was suspended in Shopian district of South Kashmir on Saturday evening due to the ongoing gunfight between the militants and the government forces, reports said.
A local resident of Shopian town told The Kashmir Walla that the broadband internet was working while as mobile internet was suspended after the gunfight began.
Several other reports quoted by a local news agency GNS also confirmed that the mobile internet was not working in the district.
One militant was killed while as three armymen were injured in the gunfight at Wangam area of Shopian. Official sources had said that based on specific information about the presence of the militants, a joint team of Police and army launched a cordon and search operation in Wangam area of the district.
As the joint team of forces approached the suspected spot, they said, the hiding militants fired upon them, triggering off a gunfight.
One militant was killed so far while three army soldiers received injured in the initial phase of the encounter. The injured were shifted to hospital even as the identity of the slain militant was yet to be ascertained, they said. “One M4 Rifle was also recovered from the slain militant,” they said.
