A 15-year-old missing girl was rescued by the locals and policemen posted at Kalnai bridge after she jumped into Kalnai river near Thathri in Doda district in a bid to end her life on Tuesday.

A police official today told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a girl was rescued from Kalnai river, who was kidnapped a few days ago, was rescued after she tried to commit suicide by jumping into the river.

He said that they had received a complaint as on 17 April from one Mohammad Rafi, a resident of Nagni that his 15-yr-old daughter (name held) was kidnapped by one Rehan, a resident of Gandoh and others. He said that on this complaint an FIR No. 37/2021 under section 363-109 IPC was registered at PS Thathri.

Meanwhile, Station House Officer (SHO) Thathri Javid Iqbal said during various raids at several places the girl could not be traced, however, later the missing girl surfaced on her own and jumped into river Kalnai but was rescued alive.

He said that upon questioning the girl, she revealed that after leaving the house she went to Kishtwar and spent a night at Kishtwar hospital.

“On 16 April she come back from Kishtwar in a mini bus and after reaching Thathri the cleaner of the vehicle took her to an isolated place in the same vehicle and during night raped her,” he said.

He said that the cleaner of the vehicle namely Mukesh Kumar son of Banka Ram, a resident of Lawa village of Kishtwar was arrested from an isolated place from upper Thathri area who tried to flee. He said that the vehicle has also been seized and further investigation of the case was going on—(KNO)
