The Earth could be impacted by a high-speed solar storm, approaching at 1,6 million kilometers per hour, quoting the information released by Nasa Times of India (TOI) reported.
As per the report, it might disrupt satellite signals and communication networks, and GPS, mobile, and television systems. It may also cause power transmission to be disrupted.
Solar storms are massive bursts of charged particles that are blasted into space from the Sun’s atmosphere. A ‘hole’ in the Sun’s equatorial zone has caused the present storm. Later on Monday, it is predicted to lash the Earth, reads the report.
As per the report of TOI, disruption in power and communication systems due to such a phenomenon is common. However, they pose no major risk to human health.
Those who live at higher latitudes may see spectacular aurora activity, as per TOI. Solar storms, which are charged particles, combine with the earth’s magnetic fields to create the celestial displays that may be seen in the night sky.
