Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir police have arrested a man for allegedly killing his wife in Central Kashmir’s Kangan town of Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.

Pertinently, the body of a woman was recovered from Nallah Sindh in Gonchi Mohalla of Akhal area of Kangan area on 15 July this month.

The deceased was identified as 30-year-old Rubeena Jan, wife of Abdul Majeed Khan of Gonchi Mohalla Akhal Kangan, who was missing since 11, July  2020.

Shortly after the incident police registered a case and set an investigation into motion.

During the course of the investigation, the husband of the deceased woman confessed his crime and said he killed his wife because of her ‘infidelity’.

A local news gathering agency Kashmir News Trust (KNT) quoting unnamed officials reported that the husband of the woman during questioning claimed that it was the doubtful character of his wife which forced him to kill her and he took the help of his brother for the crime.

The deceased was the resident of West Bengal. The accused Abdul Majeed had married her in West Bengal and brought her to Kashmir. He cast a doubt on her character and this lead to routine arguments between the two.

The accused during questioning claimed that his wife had an extramarital affair with a man in West Bengal and she was insisting him to visit Bengal. The accused was not ready to visit West Bengal and this created differences and acrimony between the couple.

Sub Divisional Police Officer(SDPO) Kangan, Sheikh Tahir told KNT that they have arrested two brothers for killing a woman. “Husband has confessed that he killed his wife for ‘infidelity’ and took the assistance of his brother. Both the brothers are in lock-up,” he said.

Meanwhile, Senior Superintendent of Police Ganderbal while hailing the work of SDPO and Station House Officer Kangan tweeted that: “At Police Station Kangan a drowning case of a lady namely Smt Rubeena W/o Abdul Majid Khan has been worked as murder to have committed by her husband.” (KNT)
