On the occasion of Ashoora, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha remembered Imam Hussain (RA) and Karbala martyrs while urging the people to “follow the path of righteousness, courage & truth”.
“Remembering martyrs of Karbala on the occasion of Ashoora.The martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) & his companions has a unifying message for all of us to uphold the high principles of human dignity & justice,” the LG wrote on his official twitter handle.
“On this day, I pray for sustained peace and prosperity in J&K and hope that the occasion would further strengthen the bond of brotherhood among all communities,” he said.
The month of Muharram is considered to be the second holiest month in the Islamic calendar and marks the start of the Islamic New Year.
The 10th day of Muharram is called Ashoora. It marks the day Imam Hussain (RA), the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and son of the fourth Caliph of Islam Hazrat Ali (RA), was martyred in the Battle of Karbala in 680 AD.
