A family from Kunan Poshpora in north Kashmir protested in Srinagar’s press enclave on Wednesday, alleging that their kin has ‘disappeared’ after he was taken in custody by the army.

The family identified the missing person as Abdul Rashid Dar, who was “detained by the army on 15 December”.

During the protests, the family told the reporters that army had said that Dar was needed for questioning and will be released soon.

“The army whisked him away in their vehicle and we were told to come to the camp next day,” Rashid’s sister told reporters.

She said the next day, Dar’s mother went to the Trehgam army camp where they waited till 4 pm. Later, we were told that “he escaped from custody.”

The family members requested prompt intervention from the LG Manoj Sinha-led administration and the police.

In a circular issued by the army, it was stated that the person “Abdul Rashid Dar, S/O Mohammad Siddique Dar, R/O Kunan, Trehgan, Kupwara” has gone missing. They also issued phone numbers for helping them locate the person.

Contact “SHO Trehgam 9596333888 or Town commander 8493014107,“ for any information on the missing person, the army said in its circular.

Meanwhile, the family said that they have filed a complaint in their local police station.
