Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday claimed to have recovered a minor kidnapped girl and arrested the person involved in the crime.

In a statement issued here, a spokesperson of the police said, “Police Station Dangiwacha received a complaint stating that a minor girl has been kidnapped by one individual identified as Ovais Khaliq Sheikh resident of Rawoocha Rafiabad,”

Adding that accrodingly, Case FIR No. 59/2020 under relevant sections of law was registered at PS Dangiwacha and investigation was initiated.

The spokesperson claimed, “Acting on the specific leads, officers were able to recover the kidnapped girl from Lolab area of Kupwara and also arrested the kidnapper within 24 hours after complaint was received,”

He said that after fulfilling all medico-legal formalities, the girl was handed over to her legal heirs. Investigation into the matter is in progress.

“Swift action by police against anti-social elements has been appreciated by the locals. Community members are requested to cooperate with police in curbing social crimes in their neighbourhood. They can share information pertaining to social crimes with police. We reassure the community members that our efforts in curbing social crimes shall continue.”
