Kashmir-based journalist Qazi Shibli has won the annual Kamaran International award for Journalism for the year 2022.

Shibli, the editor of a south Kashmir-based publication The Kashmiriyat, was nominated for the award by George Henton, a British journalist and documentary filmmaker, Asos Hardi, a Kurdish and Iraqi journalist, and Emily Garthwaite, a renowned British journalist in April.

The award is given by Metrography based in Iraq, in the memory of Kamaran Najm, a photojournalist who went missing after he was abducted by ISIS militants on 12 June 2014, shortly after he was wounded while covering the fighting between ISIS and Kurdish forces near Mullah Abdullah, Iraq.

Earlier, in July 2019, Shibli was booked under the Public Safety Act in Kashmir and later shifted to outside the valley.

He was awarded a cash prize of 12,000 USD for the Kamaran International awards.
