A Kashmir based journalist, Bhat Burhan has won the Rory Peck Awards 2022 in News Award Category on Wednesday night.

Burhan, who is currently in London for the award ceremony, was announced the winner of the award last evening.

The other nominees for the award are Alexander (Sasha) Ermochenko, Pavel Klimov, and Raul Gallego Abellan.

Rory Peck Trust is a United Kingdom-based organization that provides practical and financial support to freelance journalists and their families worldwide, assisting in times of crisis and helping them to work more safely and professionally.

Last year, Bhat won Newcomer of the Year – Hans Verploeg Award 2021’ by Free Press Unlimited.

Burhan started his journalism career from The Kashmir Walla in 2018 and went on to become an independent journalist. He has reported several issues from Kashmir and others parts of India, including crisis of transgender community, the nationwide farmers protests in Punjab, Covid-19 pandemic.
